Music & Wellness: The Healing Power of Music
Music has long been a source of comfort, reflection, and renewal. Across cultures and throughout history, it has helped us process grief, celebrate joy, find stillness, and reconnect with ourselves and one another. Today, growing scientific research continues to affirm what artists have always understood: music can profoundly influence our emotional well-being, reduce stress, strengthen memory, and support healing.
Inspired by these themes, this recital explores the restorative power of music through works for solo piano by Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Johannes Brahms, Erik Satie, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Each composer offers a unique musical landscape - from the luminous serenity of Debussy and the intimate lyricism of Fauré to the warmth of Brahms, the contemplative simplicity of Satie, and the timeless clarity of Mozart.
Presented in conjunction with Festival Napa Valley’s Music & Wellness program and keynote speaker Renée Fleming, this recital celebrates the enduring role of artists in society. Beyond entertainment, music invites us to slow down, listen deeply, and experience moments of beauty, reflection, and human connection. It reminds us that the arts are not merely a luxury, but an essential part of individual and collective well-being.
